Expectra 183 (PTY) LTD was established in 2001 and became active in 2008. The company was formed by black women with health-sector experience across HIV & AIDS, PMTCT, reproductive health, IMCI, TB, management of sexual assault victims and first aid.

Prof. Maria Sonto Maputle has worked in higher education for more than 25 years and specialises in Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing. Her academic work spans teaching, postgraduate mentorship, peer-reviewed research and health-sector research leadership.
Her University of Venda profile records extensive publication in peer-reviewed and accredited journals, six book chapters, and a C3 NRF researcher rating for the 2021–2026 cycle.
Since 2009, the profile records supervision or mentorship of 55 Honours students and 25 Master's students, with seven additional Master's co-supervisions; she promoted 19 PhD candidates and co-promoted a further six.
